I passed!!!!

I had to take some standard blood tests over the weekend and I got the results today. My sugar (both fasting and two hours after a meal) were great, both lower on the scale of normal. My iron was good, and everything else fine. I was a little worried because you never know but the Dr is happy as he can be about all this. I tell you I really do like my Dr, he gets so excited over things you know he sees everyday but are new for me and that is really refreshing.

Got Luggage???

We are working are really working on being prepared with baby basics when the baby comes. Just so if something were to happen, our little one would not be caught without. Well, I think beside a baby bathtub, we are good to go. The lastest eddition?? Her bag packed for the hospital. Austin and I went out yesterday and got the final things for my hospital bag and her hospital bag and now they are ready by the door. Soon to be moved to the car....

Does it seem early? Yes but this way it gets one more thing off the list.

Here is Austin, modeling the bag. I think it is a confort to him to have these things ready.

It is not big but just enough to fit some diapers, wipes, clothing, blankets, etc.

We also bought a sleep positioner as it was on sale. I was told by a few people that you need one and this is the same design that I saw on Amazon...

I like the opening of the bag, reminds me of my range bag. I guess lil miss will her own range bag someday too. It has a large opening with two zippers and some pockets. Also some elastic to hold bottles upright inside.

Here is a close up the sleep positioner...a cuña must mean something in spanish, but cuna in spanish means crib. I looked in our dictionary but it was not there. Maybe it means positioner. I am not sure but we bought it.

Also more exciting news. We looked at the house Friday and we move on Austin's next day off. We have picked out the baby's room and I can start to get that together when we move. It is spacious and with the stairs, looks like I am going to get a work out. Unfortunatly, outside the gated neighborhood, the sidewalks are non-existant so we may not walk as much but I am finding that a quick drive to the mall and walking there will wear me out.

Also we bought a new keyboard allowing us to type in spanish with the special characters. We had a heck of a time and now we can here at home.

Baby can make her way home....

We are very excited. After our class we did a bit of shopping. We had researched what we wanted and decided on the Graco Travel System. It has the stroller, Snug Ride infant car seat, and car seat base.

This is the infant seat in the stroller.

This is the stroller by itself.

The price we paid for it. A bit more than the US but what else could we do?

The top of the stroller.

The stroller and the pack n' play, we are a graco family.

A side view of the infant seat with the stoller.

Me at 26 wks, have I got any bigger?

Austin the daddy...I am glad he likes the stroller.

So that was our big day. Tomorrow? We get to walk through the new house. I think we will move on Austin's four day in two weeks. I would move on us but no heavy lifting for me... ;-)

Some More pics of the City...

I was looking through some pics and found some that I really like.

This one I was trying to take a pic of the flag flying over the Ministerio de Educacion. I got the fence but I like the shot just the way it is.

This sign says something about Pollo Campero (which is the world famous Fried Chicken chain that started in Guatemala city) being the food of love for Guatemala. It is no BS that they love their Fried Chicken here. Austin says that at work, they Pollo Campero once a month (homemade by the cooks) and it is one of the best meals all month. Maybe it is the food of love...

We say this design on a wall in Zona 5 and the bottom is in Indian, I am not sure which indian language though, there are 22 official ones recognized by Guate. Who knows about the unrecognized...

Father of the Year...at least in my book.

Today is fathers day, and I suppose it is a little different than the last. A little more meaningful to the both of us. Next year will be the big one so I guess this one is just breaking us in to realize that we are not just the gift givers but soon to be the honorees.

I found this pic of Austin and realize that it is one of my favs. He is at work, diggered out, and dirty as all get out. Before they got the dry set up at this job, he used to come home a mess and I would scream but then the next day would be the same. I think every once in a while he likes to take a break from sitting in a office and muck it up a bit, go play in the dirt and build something. I have to say that I am proud of the things he has created at work. He could design something and then go out and build it. Just like legos but for something that pumps water or holds the rock.

My fondest memories are of my sister and I, playing in the dirt and mud of the back yard or us taking that huge bucket of legos and building doll houses and such. I just hope that between the two of us, we can have our lil miss learn and hold on to the same. And may she never trick her little sibling to eat the mud like I did mine.

Happy Father's day.

Earthquakes

This is the information that I got of the USGS website. The articles we have seen are all conflicting like where and what magnitude. Where we went to the the coast last weekend is in the area of the Quake. They say that it was most felt in the state of Escuintla and the coast which is about 60 miles SSW of Guatemala City. I checked on the map with the coordinates and the Quake center is about 15 miles into the sea from Puerto Quetzal. (the large port into Guatemala).

They interviewed some people from Puerto Quetzal and around in that area. No crops or buildings were damaged and the red cross say that no one was injured The guy from the Puerto Quetzal said that everything was really moving and swaying. I am just glad to be in the city and not near there.

The baby did not like what happened either. I am not sure if it was because my pulse was higher or if I was agitated, right after she kicked for about an half an hour straight. Like she was mad or something. I had to lay down to get her stop.

Moving

I am so happy that we found out we are moving. I have to say that I have never dreaded moving but this one I am way excited about. They finally have a spot for us in the housing compound which is out of the city in a little suburb. So bye bye apartment, and hello house. There are couple of things I am happy about and a few I am sad about but here it goes.

Things I am excited about
-people, more people,
-bigger space, more room for baby
-off the 10th floor with one exit, I worry about fire or something like that.
-A change of scenery
-moving away from the store that has it security alarm go off at least 4 times a week, mostly in the wee hours of the morning. It also goes off on Sunday, like all day and drives me nuts.
-Moving away from our neighbors upstairs that move furniture in the middle of the night or have large parties. They are constantly waking me up. Grrr.
-Oh and Earthquakes. We just had one and the whole apartment was swaying around and I hate it. I don't know if I can trust the building and being up here, freaks me out.

Things I miss
-Our funny little door man that smiles all the time
-the fact they close the street down town and we can walk to it
-That we are hop, skip and a half jump to the airport for Austin.

This is a great idea to move and I am so excited, I guess I need to pack.

oh, on a sad note, I can not walk to the mall anymore., The mall is about a mile away and last weekend, we tried because I got to feeling really good and over confidant about how good I felt. Well on the way back, I started to be in pain (back, belly, feet) and I had to sit and wait while Austin got the car. I am embarrassed but also glad that I did not decide to do it by myself. I guess I could not make it to the Dr on foot anymore. I feel like I have had some of my freedom taken away but I knew that it would happen at somepoint.

Various shots of Guatemala

I finally remembered to down load the pics from my phone. Sorry if they are a bit grany but people around here get a little edgy if you whip out a camera, definatly label us as tourists. I find that by whipping out my phone, I don't get any stares. Everyone has a cell phone here.

Here are some of the statues that are in the middle of the streets. There are a couple of streets that have wide medians (almost as wide as the road themselves) and they install parks, trees, plants and statues. La Reforma and Las Americas are the streets with the best medians.

Here is one of some people who are important to the city.

This is the a car with the city logo and paint color. Bright green...

This is a sign asking for people to respect the trafic lights, laws are not heavily enforced here and trafic lights are more like suggestions some times.

This is the sign to go to either Las Americas or Blvd Liberacion. Las Americas is the main road that we live off of and Blvd Liberacion is the road to some malls and turns into the Carretera (highway) out of town (towards Antigua).

This is a statue of O'Higgins

Along Las Americas, there are plazas for each of the countries from Canada down to the tip of South America. This is Costa Rica. I am trying to get pics of all of them but we never seem to go in order. I should try to find all of them.

Sometimes I think that places like this, took shortcuts in the natural progression of things. They have this trucks called GraficMovils. These trucks have ads on three sides of the truck and the ads are the cool ones that change when all the little panels rotate. These trucks drive slow and usually a pain in the butt but this one was for Fathers Day and had a car in the truck. I had to take a pic of it. Sorry it is raining.

The Pacific coast...Guatemala style

We went to the Pacific Coast on Saturday. It was a nice drive. Here are some pics on the way there and back. We did not get a lot of pics from around the coast area. Where we went was a big port and with the big hotels, we did not even see a good spot to take pics. Plus, locals get bothered or expect money if you take pics and they are around. Most people watched us roll into town and roll right back out. The parts of the coast we saw reminded me of a mouth of a river.

I think that next time we will get a hotel room and read up where to go. This time we just went and but it was nice to get out of the city.

We stopped in Escuintla for lunch and at Villa Nueva (a suburb of Guatemala city) to peak at the mall and see what was going on.

From what Austin has said, this is the best highway (autopista) in the country. The roads were decent even through we saw two trucks get into accident right in front of us (thank goodness that Austin is a good driver)

Palin is a little town that is of this road. This is also the road to a nice lake, I think that might be our next trip.

Sugar cane...this country has pretty good sugar (Azucar) here and it is big business. I think that is why they add it to everything.

I really like the sceanery. It was like this the whole way. Very peaceful.

More Sugar Cane...

See the sign to Escuintla??

They have lots of housing places like this as you leave the city...reminds me of Vegas...

I would have liked to stop on the side of the road to take pics but Austin said that is not safe, a good call I think. you never know what you are going to encounter.

It's a girl.....Yeah!!!!

It is a girl... We are so excited. We rushed out and bought a bunch of stuff. Today was her new sleeping/changing place. Tomorrow is things like diapers and the like.

Here is the play yard with the changing pad.

Here is a good pic of the play yard put together.

Very girly if you ask me...

And another one for good measure....

This is me on 4-27, at 18 wks. I was showing a but not that much.

This is today at 24 wks. I think I am a bit bigger. Austin said there is a big difference from the last time he was home and when he came home yesterday.

Austin and his "I love Daddy" Socks...

Austin and his little girl dress.

So I think that is everything today. The class went really well and I think it is a good thing that we are starting early as we are going to continue every two weeks when the men are home from work.

Some more pics

This is a pic of my cat living it up at my In-laws. They have been gracious enough to let him live there and they tolorate his constant chatter and neediness.

This was a birthday present from my In-laws. I love the willow tree colection. I think that will be my next collection when I get back to the mother-land.

And this cartoon, is exactly how I feel. Pregnancy can cause things to happen to your body and none of it is pleasent.

Tomorrow, we will take some pics of my and my belly. Tomorrow I will be at 24 wks and the end is near. Excited and nervous.

Oh, And Jon? I have actually gotten better medical care down her than from Washoe Med in Reno. Doctors have a much better sense of bed side manner and the hospital is very modern. Plus it is CHEAP!!!!!! What is not to love??? Plus, I might get a little plastic surgery too while I am in there...just kidding. If we are not satisfied with our ultrasound tomorrow, we planned to go over and check out the 4-d ultrasound place near the hospital. We had some friends who did it and Austin was impressed with the pics.

Thoughts on tomorrow...

Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day. We go to our first Lamaze class and second, we have a ultrasound planned. I am very excited as we get to find the the sex of the baby. Girl or boy...who knows? I guess we will find out tomorrow. The second u/s I has was neat since lil miss danced all over. I hope she does the same. I guess i have to come up with a new name for lil mister if it is a boy. I have always just felt it would be a girl...I guess I should see how the mother's instinct is.

Raining....Always Raining..

Rain, Rain, Rain

Some More rain

The clouds looking pretty dark...

Misty...

It was raining, again today. It was sunny this morning but bam, in a few seconds it was so dark that I had to turn on the lights. It has been raining for about 2 hours now and does not seem to want to quit. So much for shopping today...
